Loreley Fehr

Loreley Fehr is currently a regional manager for public health-healthy living for Southern Health-Santé Sud. With over 30 years of nursing experience predominantly in rural settings she has worked as a direct care provider, manager and educator in acute, long term care and community. Loreley sits on the board of directors for the Canadian Nurses Association. She also leads the Christmas hamper project for the Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone. Loreley believes all nurses are powerful change agents that have the knowledge, skill and ability to influence and lead the nursing profession. She is committed to professional practice, education, advocacy and supporting our most vulnerable populations.

Ken Borce is Division Commander, Division 36 – Communications with the Winnipeg Police Service. Previously he was the manager of the Patient Care - Critical Care Program at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. An internationally educated nurse, Ken has diverse experience in healthcare and is passionate about delivering the highest quality and most sustainable care to patients by promoting excellence in and growth of professional nursing practice, education, leadership, and research. He believes that the overall advancement of the nursing profession can be achieved through meaningful consultation, collaboration, and communication with our fellow nurses and other healthcare colleagues.

Jacob Ahiaegbe

Jacob is the director of resident care at the Betel Home Foundation. He began his career as a bedside nurse in Ontario, working in both acute and long-term care settings. He then began teaching as a sessional instructor with the Cambrian College Collaborative Bachelor of Nursing Program. In 2015, Jacob moved to Manitoba where he worked as a community health nurse in rural and remote Northern communities. Jacob received his bachelor of science in nursing as well as his master of business administration at Laurentian University. He is committed to continuing the legacy of Manitoba nurses to drive health system transformations that lead to better health outcomes for all Manitobans.

Ashley Carruthers is a nurse practitioner working as a primary care provider for the WRHA. Ashley also owns and operates a health and wellness clinic and is an instructor with Red River Polytech. She has more than 20 years of experience in health care. This has allowed for a clear understanding of the changing nursing profession and its scope of practice. As a stakeholder of change, Ashley believes these transitions need a professional organization that will represent them both in practice and policy. Ashley is dedicated to serving the members of the Association as a change agent.

Louise Dowhan-Bertouille

Louise has practised law at Dowhan & Dowhan Law Corporation in Winnipeg for the past thirty years and is a member in good standing with the Law Society of Manitoba. Her practice areas include real estate, wills and estates, family law, with a specialty in domestic adoption. Louise has worked with both birth parents and adoptive parents on a regular basis since 1996. Louise graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba in 1989 and was Called to the Bar in 1990. Louise is a past board member for various organizations in the community and is pleased to give her support to the nurses of Manitoba in this current position.

Dr. Jane Karpa

Dr. Jane Karpa is a registered psychiatric nurse (RPN) with over twenty-five years of clinical practice in working with children, adolescents, adults and families within health systems and as a private practitioner. Currently, Jane is an associate professor at Brandon University in both the Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing Program and in the Master of Psychiatric Nursing Program. Her research program includes family-centered care, reflective practice, and boundaries in practice. Jane believes that now more than ever there is a need for nursing’s professional voice to be heard. This is the time to enhance the interprofessional collaborations that can advance the profession for all nurses in Manitoba.

Nina is a registered nurse with over 25 years of experience in various healthcare settings. She is currently in a senior leadership position in seniors’ care. One of Nina’s career highlights has been teaching and mentoring new nurses as a sessional instructor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Manitoba. She has engaged with several non-profit boards in both long-term care and seniors’ housing sectors. These experiences have enriched her skills and knowledge of board governance, roles, and accountabilities. Nina believes that the profession of nursing plays a key role in providing a collaborative voice at the table of health planning and transformation.

Monica Maliszewski-Leahul

Monica is a trilingual registered nurse at the Brandon Regional Health Center on a surgical unit primarily devoted to pre and post surgical care. Prior to completing her nursing degree, she earned a bachelor of arts in criminology/linguistics. She recently earned her certification for foot-care nursing. Monica sits on the Prairie Mountain Health ethics committee. Having lived in multiple countries, Monica has developed a passion for integrating people’s values, beliefs and cultural experiences into healthcare.

Katrin Param-Vital

Katrin currently works as the manager of patient care position in the pediatric intensive care unit at the Health Sciences Centre. Katrin graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Nursing and is currently taking her Master of Business Administration through the University of Fredericton. Katrin has diverse healthcare experience and knowledge, including acute adult medicine, critical care, travel nursing, rural health, and pediatrics. She also worked as a mentor for IENs. Katrin believes in the importance of providing nurses with the right tools for their success and professional development allowing them to influence safe practice, policy development, and process improvements.

Michelle Queau

Michelle is a bilingual registered nurse currently working in the Heart Cath Lab within the cardiac sciences program at St. Boniface Hospital. Prior to becoming a nurse, Michelle worked for many years as a laboratory technician with CancerCare Manitoba and contributed to numerous academic research projects. Michelle has been an active member of the Association’s Emerging Leaders Network (ELN) and previously part of the ELN advisory committee. Michelle has a passion for clinical practice and research, and a commitment to provide compassionate and safe patient and family-centered care.

Megan Scott

Megan Scott is a public health nurse in Brandon, with a focus in healthy sexuality and harm reduction. Previously, she was a senior staff member on the Public Health COVID Team for Prairie Mountain Health. Before becoming a registered nurse, Megan worked as a licensed practical nurse for three years in a rural acute care/long-term care setting. She pursued her Bachelor of Nursing to focus on community nursing and create a more holistic approach to how she cares for her clients. Megan has always been committed to being a leader and a positive influence on her peers. She prides herself in helping others to feel heard and appreciated.

Brenna holds a doctorate and master's degree in healthcare administration and a bachelor of medical rehabilitation, occupational therapy. Her senior management career in healthcare administration includes professional association, government, public health, hospital, community and education settings. In addition to her management portfolio, Brenna has been actively involved in research, teaching and fundraising activities. Areas of research have included program evaluation, immunization, cervical cancer screening, HPV, public policy and HIV. She has received research funding from both public and private sources.
